Our Inspiration

Colvin Run Mill, nestled in Great Falls, Virginia, stands as a testament to 19th-century innovation and efficiency. Originally owned by George Washington, the mill was named after his mentor, Colville, and the tributary that powers it, Difficult Run. Representing a breakthrough in automation for its time, the mill relied on gravity and waterpower to move grain through its machinery, requiring minimal manual intervention—just to start, stop, and adjust operations.

Remarkably, this 200-year-old water-powered gristmill remains operational today, a living reminder of history and ingenuity.
